Author: Anna Banks
Publication Date: May 28, 2013 by Feiwel and Friends
Format: Hardback
Plot Synopsis:
Emma has just learned that her mother is a long-lost Poseidon princess, and now struggles with an identity crisis: As a Half-Breed, she’s a freak in the human world and an abomination in the Syrena realm below. Syrena law states that all Half-Breeds should be put to death.
As if that’s not bad enough, her mother’s reappearance among the Syrena turns the two kingdoms—Poseidon and Triton—against one another. Which leaves Emma with a decision to make: Should she comply with Galen’s request to keep herself safe and just hope for the best? Or should she risk it all and reveal herself—and her Gift—to save a people she’s never known?
The Actual Review:
Hi there! Of Triton is the second installment of the amazing Syrena Trilogy, by Anna Banks. I have a spoiler free review of the first book, Of Poseidon, and I it posted online, you can check it out here.
Of Triton is definitely a lot shorter the the first book by a at least a hundred pages or so. Sadly that 100 pages the book is short on, it lacked that humor that really got me hooked. I understand that even though this was more intense than the first one, more serious, but it felt that there was a wall between most characters, disabling them to interact properly. Although, the wall was broken down in the last fifty pages of the book and the character interaction superbly came back, it still seems insufficient to catch up.
Another thing that I didn’t like in this book was there were parts that were completely irrelevant to the plot line. Not to mention the death of a well loved character, upon which was completely insignificant. It was like the author decided to kill this character just for kicks. It didn’t even bring a trigger a character development.
However, even saying all those things above, I still loved this book! It had that certain je ne sais quoi that made me still love it. There were more action scenes in this than the first one, and even though this was shorter than the first, the Epilogue at the end of the book wasn’t a letdown.
Over all, Of Triton is still an amazing book that won’t let the fans of Of Poseidon down, and readers will find themselves falling for the characters all over again.
